stankeig

Name: Stan Keig

Position: Managing Director

Stan Keig’s contagious enthusiasm for both business and life in general has been a driving force in the success of Viking Office Systems since the company was formed by him and Graham Jones back in 1994. His unerringly positive outlook has shaped the business as a force to be reckoned with in its field, and a great place to work for its employees.

Under Stan’s stewardship the company has grown in both size and stature, earning many plaudits for its innovation and its commitment to a world class quality, Isle of Man focused, service: ‘Business is serious fun,’ said Stan. ‘By its very nature it has to be serious but why shouldn’t it also be fun?’

Stan is understandably proud of Viking Office Systems’ achievements, but also of the part the company has played in Island life as a whole – supporting and assisting a host of community and charity projects. ‘I see myself to be very lucky to be where I am doing what I’m doing. Business life has its ups and downs but it’s essential to retain a positive outlook.’

Married to Tara, the couple have three young daughters. They live in Greeba, just a couple of minutes from the office at St Johns. Tara is one of Viking’s Directors and a shareholder.

Stan, who was brought up in Port St Mary, loves the sea: ‘Strangely, what I like is that I can’t see it from my home in Greeba. It means that whenever I go anywhere on the Island I get the pleasure of it coming into view!’

daveball

Name: Dave Ball

Position: Service Director

David Ball is longstanding member of the Viking Office Systems team having been with the company for over eight years. A native of Bolton he moved to the Island 14 years ago, leaving the employ of Nexus to join Douglas based DataCentre.

But it’s at Viking that David has found his niche taking on the challenging role of service manager: ‘It means I am responsible for the efficient running of our service team, and the maintenance of our in-house IT infrastructure,’ explained David.

As part of his brief he must ensure that engineers are carrying the right spares in their vehicles and that sufficient stock levels are maintained at head office: ‘I also have responsibility for ongoing training of our technicians and organising courses when required,’ explained David. Fortunately much of the training can now be done online: ‘The theory work is all done using the internet, which normally then just requires a short practical course,’he added.

Between them the team at Viking service around 1,200 customer contracts: ‘There are many different types of contract, but I would estimate that in the region of 900 of ours relate to photocopiers and printers,’ said David.

Away from the office David is married with two daughters aged nine and seven. He also plays the guitar and is a keen sports fan: ‘I’m a Bolton Wanderers supporter but I also love to watch rugby. I used to play for Southern Nomads when I first moved to the Island,’ he said.

David is also a keen DIY exponent, and has recently completed all the internal fitting out of a new extension to his Douglas home. Late in 2010, Dave became a Director of Viking Office Systems.
