Busy Bees in January! - January 12, 2012

We should all be used to the fact that it’s 2012 by now, everyone’s back into the routine of working and the festive period is but a memory… however, our hard-working team here at Viking have hardly had any time to think of anything else other than printer and copier installs, customer resites and service calls! Since the start of the month,  calls have come in thick and fast and our support engineers have been kept well on their toes – and still managed to deliver the kind of service that receives high praise from our clients. We’d like you to join us in thanking them for their good work so far in 2012, and long may it continue! (although the engineers may say otherwise!)

Who spotted the Ricoh on the backstage footage from the X Factor last weekend? During one of the segments of an interview, a Ricoh MFP identical to those supplied by Viking was spotted lurking around in the background!

With all the controversy this week with contestants quitting and getting second chances to become this year’s X-Factor winner (and almost certainly the coveted Christmas Number One spot) there will almost certainly be more drama and scenes from corridors, offices and dressing rooms backstage so keep your keen eyes peeled for the real star of the show, the Ricoh!

Latest news from Douglas RUFC - October 24, 2011

DOUGLAS 30

MOORE 19

Douglas got back into winning ways on Saturday with a victory over Moore. Douglas started well and after4 minutes a long pass from Bryn Snellgrove found Simon Heggs, he beat his opposite winger, drew the full back and sent Carl Markl-Ferns in for the first try 5-0. Directly from the kick off Douglas increased their lead, the ball was retained through several rucks and after Dan Creer had made good yards the ball was released to the backs and into the hands of young winger Andrew Evans, he ran hard and was brought to ground but not held, he recovered his feet to score, Snellgrove added the conversion 12-0. Douglas were playing well but for some strange reason their usually reliable backs began to spill the ball and make some poor decisions, during the next 10 minutes at least three guilt edged chances went begging which if taken would have killed off the game before the half hour mark, they weren’t and as often happens the opposition took advantage and began to work their way back into the game. After 22 minutes a penalty by the fly half reduced the deficit 12-3, and six minutes later Moore were right back in it. The ball was moved to the right and the pacey fullback arrived at the end of the line, sprinted forward, stepped inside and scored under the posts a good try, the conversion was added, 12-10.

The Douglas pack was enjoying their best game of the season, dominating in both scrum and lineout, and a minute before the break another good 5 metre scrum resulted in the third try, Snellgrove used two dummy runners to create space for full back Mike Hebden to score near the posts, the conversion was added half time 19-10 Douglas.

The second half saw an increasing number of unforced errors by Douglas, giving the ball away in good positions and conceding silly penalties within range of the Moore fly half, he needed no second invitation and landed three from three bringing the scores level with 20 minutes left.

Douglas always looked threatening with ball in hand and after 65 minutes secured a bonus point with their fourth try, a loose kick was fielded by  Hebden who threw a long pass to Heggs, he attacked the Moore backs before chipping over the top for Will Latta to chase, collect and score, 24-19. On 73 minutes Snellgrove added a penalty, and then with three minutes remaining the same player made sure of the victory with a sharply taken drop goal, 30-19.

Douglas make the long journey to the Potteries to take on Trentham next week, a team who are always difficult to beat on their own patch, but it is a game that is winnable.

Installs, Installs, Installs! - October 21, 2011

They say it’s always better to be busy than to be quiet – and if that rings true then Viking are in a very healthy position indeed!

New and existing clients have enjoyed over a dozen installs over the last fortnight, getting to grips with their new technology provided by Viking. This, as well as our daily routine service calls have kept all of our ‘on the road’ staff extremely busy and of course, we are very thankful to them for their hard work, especially given the wet conditions they have had to face!

Rugby fever has gripped the office in the past few weeks, with all of us getting behind different nations for the Rugby World Cup, which ends this Sunday with the New Zealand vs France final. Viking are a sponsor of local side Douglas, so naturally already have a great interest in the sport. Of course the Home Nations have been strongly supported, with Wales doing the best of the four. So well done to them for their semi-final appearance, but like the Welsh team, we shall not rest on our recent achievements either and press on to be the very best that we can be.

Viking sponsored Douglas RUFC keep up the pressure - October 11, 2011

Douglas maintained the pressure on league leaders Crewe and Nantwich with a fifth bonus point win at Port-e-chee on Saturday.

Again facing a huge pack, Douglas got off to a great start when Skipper Ryan Maddox scored after just two minutes, with the full back caught at a ruck, Duckinfield were left without cover, and a chip from Bryn Snellgrove into the unguarded space was chased by Maddox to score, Snellgrove converted 7-0. After 17 minutes the visitors were level, after several drives the stand off dived over from close range, he converted himself 7-7 . Douglas regained the lead on 32 minutes when Snellgrove kicked a penalty, and in first half injury time extended the lead with another try from Maddox, who cut in on a scissors move, Snellgrove again converted 17-7 Douglas at half time.

Douglas made a great start to the second half and moved further ahead on 46 minutes with a try from Will Latta, the ball was moved left and Latta received it on his own 10 metre line, he accelerated, and beat the fullback to score, the conversion was added 24-7. Duckinfield then had their best spell of the game, the ball was kept tight by the forwards and they kept the pressure on the home team in their own 22 metre area, after two offences at a five metre scrum the referee awarded them a penalty try which was converted, 24-14 with 25 minutes left. Again Duckinfield trundled down the pitch to camp in the Douglas half, but with 2 minutes left on the clock Dan Creer turned the ball over deep in his own half, he fed Snellgrove who took the ball forward before chipping into the space down the left hand side, Latta and Andrew Evans gave chase with the visitors’ full back, but Latta won the race to the ball and hacked it infield, diving on the ball to complete the touchdown. Snellgrove again converted to give Douglas a 31-14 win.

They now lie in second place, three points behind the leaders with a game in hand, but with a very difficult away trip to Ruskin Park next week, preparation will have to be good over the next seven days to keep the run going.

Viking-sponsored Douglas RUFC storm to victory - October 3, 2011

The figures for this season so far now read four from four with four bonus points for  Douglas RUFC.

This young Douglas side again proved their credentials against one of the top sides in the league in what was arguably the toughest fixture to date.

Douglas started well and scored a few early tries. The visitors then seemed to sit back and allowed Oswestry a foothold in the match. This proved a wake up call for the Douglas pack as they then began to front up against their opposite numbers and began to win good clean ball for the dangerous Douglas backs to run the opposition of the park.

Bryn Snellgrove again played well also scoring 14 points in the process,  Will Latta proving he can be saint and sinner in the same fixture by scoring a hat trick and then being sinbinned. Skipper Ryan Maddox showing his skills also found the try line, as did Christian Brew, Carl Markle-Ferns and Andrew Evans.

The Douglas side will now be looking towards this next week’s fixture against the very physical Dukinfield. This was one a piece last season, with both sides winning at home; however Douglas now sit firmly in 2nd place in the league and these players will want to be top by this time next week.

Show success at Viking Office Systems - September 28, 2011

Last Thursday Ricoh and Viking together held a showcase on new print technologies, demonstrating how easy it now is to bring your company to the forefront with the latest products and services available.

The showcase was very well attended throughout the day (especially during the period of the provided lunch!) and many people were quite rightfully impressed, not only by how far wireless technolgies have come in recent years, but also how easy they are to use and to manage using already existing products, such as smartphones applications (or ’apps’).

If you didn’t make it along, I’m afraid that unfortunately you missed out on a great lunch – but the good news is you can still sample the technologies and see what benefits you could take from them by arranging a 1-2-1 demo at our offices at St Johns. Simply call on (01624) 803011 to make arrangements and we’ll do the rest!

Viking Office Systems enjoys successful partnership with CYG 2011 - September 14, 2011

The biggest international sporting event to ever take place on the Isle of Man, the 2011 Commonwealth Youth Games, has now come to a close.  Teams of competitors from across the globe, almost certainly featuring future Olympians converged on the Island to take part in the 5 day event.

Viking Office Systems were proud to be involved as the official office equipment supplier for the games. Every venue and many of the teams relied upon our equipment and service to print all paperwork associated with such an event.  Service had to be exceptionally fast and at one point a small emergency was calmly dealt with by one of our experienced engineers who got the problem solved; and Tony Jones of the organising committee said that “Viking saved Boxing” as the Boxing competition was able to get underway on time.

We also received shining testimonials from teams, thanking us for providing ‘first class equipment’ while also stating “service has been exceptionally prompt” and any hiccups were “reticified immediately“.  Everyone at Viking Office Systems is extremely pleased to be part of such a successful event and we look forward to continuing to play an integral part in local communities.

Viking goes lean and green! - November 22, 2010

Everybody is looking at ways of cutting costs these days, and the fact is that environmental issues are often forced to take a back seat in leaner times.

At Viking Office Systems we are introducing a new for old exchange service for toner cartridges. All you are asked to do is save all your used cartridges, which will be collected by us; and as long as you have an inclusive service contract with us, replaced with full units free of charge. It’s the perfect solution – you make cost savings on the cartridges and we re-cycle your old ones – simple!

Every year millions of used toner cartridges are needlessly dumped into landfill or incinerated (30 million in the UK alone). It is estimated that some of the components within a cartridge can take upto 1000 years to decompose. When you consider that each cartridge weighs around three pounds – that’s a lot of waste plastic, rubber etc. Each cartridge can actually be re-used up to four times with no effect on quality and performance.

We think the new for old scheme is something you will want to take part in, and between us we will be making  a significant contribution to the preservation of our fantastic Island environment. Its another example of how Viking Office Systems is constantly looking at ways of improving efficiency and operating practices on behalf of our clients.

If you do not wish to take part in our ‘new for old’ scheme please give me or Gareth Hooson-Owen a call today or drop us an email. We will be starting this scheme on 1st December.

Thank you for your continuing support.

Stan Keig

Managing Director.

Graham Cox, Sales Director at Kyocera Mita commented: “To say that 2009 was a challenging year for the hardware industry is to vastly understate the ingenuity, persistence and sheer hard work required to make sales during that time.  Kyocera’s commitment to a 100% indirect sales strategy remains as strong as it has ever been, as we believe that our channel partners possess the skills, flexibility and determination to serve our customers in the best way possible.  Our faith has been rewarded by the company’s most successful year in the last decade with turnover up 11% on the previous year, and Q1 FY 11 projected to deliver growth in excess of this.

Winning this award is an incredible honour and we’d like to take this opportunity to thank our channel partners for their support and hard work over the past year and to look forward with them to a prosperous year ahead.”

Simon Quicke, Editor of Microscope magazine, commented: “This year with more entries and votes winning an ACE award was a real challenge. But with the votes cast by the channel those that did win can be rightly proud of their achievements.”

Over the past year Kyocera Mita has refocused its channel partner programme to tailor it more closely to the differing needs of channel partners. This has enabled new partners to come on board, existing partners to develop their knowledge base, and principal partners to drive forward strategically to greater sales success.

Kyocera Mita’s strong environmental credentials, which were recognised in 2008 when the company won the Environmental Company of the Year category of the ACEs, have even greater relevance today, and are proving a strong selling point for Kyocera Mita products and services.

Graham Cox concludes: “Kyocera’s unique selling points of environmentally sensitive products, low running costs and high reliability, have unparalleled resonance in today’s business climate. We are proud that our partners recognise the benefits of selling hardware on the basis of these proven messages. Their success is our success.”

Heavy media support enhanced on Kyocera colour multifunctionals -

Support for feeding heavy media up to 220g/m2 from the standard paper trays has been available on the TASKalfa 552ci since its launch.  This feature can now be enabled on the TASKalfa 250ci, 300ci, 400ci and 500ci once firmware release 9 is applied.

When combined with some of this TASKalfa family’s other features – notably its support of Pantone colour calibration – this new feature makes the machines especially productive in certain professions.

One such profession is marketing, where heavy media is useful for producing point-of-sale materials and product collateral and Pantone calibration is essential for ensuring that corporate colours are reproduced accurately and consistently.
